Gambling and betting online has exploded over recent years. The internet is now open to everyone to bet on everything very easily. I made my first online bet in 1998 when I made a bet on the Grand National. Then, filling in the forms was a laborious process and giving credit card details on the internet was not particularly safe. Now, making a bet takes no time at all and entering your credit card details on secure, encrypted web pages is as safe as handing your card to a shop assistant. Some would argue the process of betting online is far too easy now. Placing bets from the comfort of your home is like making telephone calls to television quiz show numbers, people lose track of how much they are spending and very quickly get themselves into financial hot water. Internet gambling is a little like taking children to the fair ground and telling them they have a limit of £10 to spend for rides... If you have ever taken a child to the fair ground you will know that £10 will be spent in 10 minutes and you'll end up spending five times and upwards that amount. As with any sort of gambling, you need to set a limit and stick rigidly to it, otherwise you soon find yourself getting deeper and deeper in debt.
